Most would agree that sheet masks are a simple magic trick to achieve that hydrating and illuminating effect on your skin. Sheet masks are pretty straightforward; pop one out and apply to your skin for a certain amount of time to give your skin some extra TLC.

Easy as A-B-C right? However, there are certain tips and tricks that you can do to enhance the magical effects of sheet masks.

1. Clean skin for starters
The most important rule when it comes to sheet masks; no make-up, no SPF and no moisturiser applied prior to sheet masks. It's always better to have a clean and fresh face to absorb the most out of your masks. The right order to your skincare routine before applying on sheet masks according to Korean Beauty is: Double Cleanse, Exfoliate, Toner, Essence, Serum/Ampoule and then Sheet Masks.

2. Watch the minutes
This is a situation where longer doesn’t mean it’s better. The rule of thumb for most is to leave it for 15-20 minutes. Be sure to check the instructions at the back of your sheet mask just to be sure because wearing it for a longer period of time won’t make the results any better. In fact, once the mask begins to dry, it will take the moisture away from your skin.

3. Not patting excess essence into skin
The time is up for your sheet mask session and then you’ve proceeded to simply wipe the leftover off with tissue. This is a great faux pas! Gently tap the rest of the essence to your skin for added hydration. Better yet, instead of throwing the packaging away, scrap off that extra essence and moisturise your neck, hands, and elbows to get your money’s worth!

4. Washing face after mask session
The benefits of a sheet mask don’t end once you’ve removed it. Instead, soak up all that goodness by patting onto your skin. All that hydrating essence and ingredients in the mask are meant to be soaked into your skin and washing it off is just wasting its nourishing goodness.

5. Follow through with the rest
FYI, sheet masks don’t take care of everything that your skin needs, moisturising is still a must! Not only will moisturisers keep your skin hydrated, but it helps the absorption of essence from your sheet masks. So don’t skip any steps that come after your sheet masks; eye cream, moisturiser, and sunscreen!

Try adding these tips and tricks into your sheet mask session because some sheet masks do tend to be on the expensive side. This way, your skin will really benefit from the masks – till the very last drop!
